2019 Subaru Ascent vs. 2018 Honda Pilot

  • Most drivers are going to find that the first difference between the Subaru Ascent and the Honda Pilot is that the Ascent offers standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, while the Pilot offers standard front-wheel drive with an all-wheel drive option, but doesn't provide as smooth of a ride as the Ascent.
  • While the Pilot might have a bit more horsepower, the Ascent provides more torque with 277 pound-feet compared to the 262 on the Pilot. This leads to more responsive acceleration and wheel power that when coupled with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive is able to deliver standout traction and balance.
  • Drivers who are looking for longer, wider, and taller vehicle should go for the Ascent as it is bigger than the Pilot in all those areas, and also offers more ground clearance with 8.7-inches compared to the 7.3-inches for the Pilot.
  • The Ascent offers standard EyeSight® Driver Assist Technology, which includes automatic pre-collision braking, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and other features, which you'll find on the Pilot, but not standard across all models.

  • 2019 Subaru Ascent vs. 2018 Toyota Highlander

    • The Ascent comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which gives you command of the road, and on surfaces off it for added confidence. The Highlander has all-wheel drive, but it only offers it as an additional option, keeping front-wheel drive as its standard option.

    • With the Ascent, you're going to find more torque thanks to 277 pound-feet, while the Highlander has 263 pound-feet, which means better wheel power and acceleration from the Ascent for a smoother ride that you can count on.
  • Each vehicle has a standard multimedia system, as Subaru uses STARLINK® and Toyota uses Entune. However, STARLINK® comes standard with features like Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ while it does not on Toyota Highlander models with Entune.
  • Plenty of drivers who are adventurous and want to be able to tow with their SUV will have added confidence as the Subaru Ascent can tow up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, while the Highlander can only tow 2,000 pounds.

  • When it comes to space, the Ascent offers more, as it has 153.5 cubic feet of passenger volume compared to the 144.9 cubic feet in the Highlander.
